Class: Embroidery 101
Pre-Requisite Skills Required: Students should have basic hand sewing skills (ie: threading needles & tying knots), but embroidery experience is not required.

Embroidery is a great way to add unique elements to your hand knit garments! Take a plain hat, shawl, or sweater pattern and add a creative flourish for a truly one of a kind gift with a personalized touch.
In this class we’ll discuss several different embroidery techniques you can use to decorate your finished knits. We’ll start with duplicate stitch, a versatile stitch which you can use to add a single design element, or to reduce the number of strands you knit with in an all over pattern. Then we’ll learn a couple of stretchy embroidery stitches and try them out on your knit swatches.
Students should come with a pre-knit stockinette swatch of at least 4″x4″ or an item you’d like to embroider on, and yarn in a similar weight of contrasting color to work the embroidery with. For best results during class you are encouraged to make your swatch with a light colored yarn, in order to see the base stitches easier.
Materials Required:
4-inch square swatch knit in stockinette stitch (in a light color)
Contrasting color(s) of yarn in similar weight to the swatch
Darning Needle
Small sharp scissors

Due to the continued lower risks of Covid-19, at this time we are not currently requiring vaccination to attend classes, however, if Austin re-enters Medium or High Risk guidelines you will be asked to either present a proof of vaccination, or provide a negative covid test to attend classes/camps. Although we are not requiring proof of vaccination at this time, you may still be asked to mask during class times if you are unvaccinated to accommodate any higher risk students or teachers.
CLASSÂ REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION
1. If you would prefer to sign-up over the phone, call HCW at 707-7396 with credit card information to secure a spot.
2. There is a $2 cancellation fee. A 5-day notice is required for cancellation without additional penalty. Cancellations made within 5 days of a class are subject to a 50% class charge.Cancellations made the day of class and no-shows are not refundable.
3.Classes may be cancelled in the event of insufficient sign-ups (less than 3 students) – if we cancel a class you will be notified the week before by phone & will be given a full refund.
